BANFF BUSINESSES CAN ELIMINATE LANDFILL GARBAGE BY 2050

The Town of Banff launched the Zero Waste Trail program in 2019 to help restaurants, hotels and other organizations reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. At least 65% of Banff’s waste going to landfill comes from the commercial sector, and almost 50% of that waste is food. Another 15% of commercial waste going to landfill is recyclable.

Get your business onto the Zero Waste Trail and help maintain the long-term
well-being and sustainability of Banff.

SET UP BINS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

STEP 1: Stop waste from happening in the first place

  • Find out what waste is ending up in your landfill (ex. single-use items) and eliminate those items where possible.

  • Donate edible food to Banff Food Rescue.

  • Participate in the Banff Isn’t Disposable container reuse program.

STEP 2: Set up your businesses waste sorting bins & post signage.

  • Find the right bins for your business - consider your space constraints when buying bins.

  • Add signage to the bin - use labels to promote proper sorting.

  • Click here to view downloadable labels that you can use at your business.

STEP 3: Empower staff

  • Ensure that your staff are aware of your businesses commitment to move toward zero waste.
